Introduction

My fiance and I have this for supper all the time and he just goes crazy for it. We usually serve it with either buttered whole grain bread or garlic bread.

Feel free to substitue with any kind of noodle.

Ingredients

    1 can diced tomatoes
1 can Del Monte traditional spaghetti sauce (or whatever brand you like best.)
    1/4 lb. mild italian sausage
    2 cloves garlic
1 cup sliced or diced fresh mushrooms
1 pound whole wheat spaghetti (1 small box)

Directions

Put a large pot of water over high heat. Cover until boiling, throw pasta in and stir to seperate. Allow to cook until al dente. (Follow directions on the box.)

Sauce:
Brown the italian sausage in a large skillet. Drain and add the diced or minced garlic. (Two tbsp. of jarred minced garlic = 2 cloves) Add diced or sliced mushrooms and cook until they are tender. Drain and add 1 can of diced tomatoes and cook until sauce thickens. Add 1 can of your spaghetti sauce and cook until hot and bubbly.

Drain noodles and serve.

Makes 6 small to medium portions. (I'm not really sure how many because my fiance and I always have leftovers after the two of us are finished.)

To make it even better, serve with a fresh salad and a cool sparkling beverage. Great with garlic toast or buttered whole grain bread.

This was FANTASTIC! I added some onion, and used the diced tomatoes that also has garlic in it as well, and just used marinara sauce for less calories/fat, etc. Was simply scrumptuous. Thank you for the recipe! - 4/26/10

This was wonderful. We had it for dinner lastnight. I love the sausage because it gives it a better taste than traditional spaghetti with ground beef, plus because of the stronger flavor in the sausage it takes alot less meat. It was very tasty and filling. - 1/9/09

It's funny; I bought italian turkey sausage today for the first time, and thought I'd try it in some spaghetti, with onions and mushrooms and possibly green peppers in the sauce. I was thinking about chopping up some fresh tomatoes to add to the sauce. Then I saw this recipe. This'll help guide me :) - 7/2/08

This recipe is great! I made it and it's so fast and economical. It's great considering I'm in college and I don't have a lot of time or money for good food. Definitely a meal to make over and over again. I added half an onion to the suace and it was fabulous! - 7/1/08
