I left out the sugar and added finely chopped carrot instead. This was very tasty and chunky with all the veggies. Threw in some ground turkey and served over whole wheat noodles for a really great dish!! Will make this one again! - 1/3/10

Try Pomi tomatoes for this sauce- no salt or sugar, comes in strained (smooth) or chopped... Tastes like fresh and an added bonus, packed in cardboard tetra-pak, so no BPA in the can lining!!! - 9/25/13

Tastes better than any store bought sauce I've gotten! I used less than half the amount of basil and used fresh stuff instead. I also added a little Italian seasoning. Will definitely continue making this! Thanks for the recipe! - 7/14/12

Very easy to follow directions! I used fresh basil and oregano instead of dried. I think it elevated the flavor even more. Not that it needed it. :-) - 2/18/11

I followed the recipe however this sauce was very tangy and somewhat bitter. Tried adding more sugar to cut the tomatos but didn't help that much. - 2/8/09

This sauce is just great!!! It tastes better than the brand I used to buy at the supermarket. I cut the recipe in half and it worked just fine. Incredible taste. Just as the name says it's a basic sauce so veggies like green peppers and mushrooms or anything else could be added as desired. - 12/8/08
