Introduction

Editor's note: Use your favorite milk or yogurt in this recipe. Use ice cubes instead of water for a frozen treat.

Most of the smoothie recipes I've seen are for 3-6 servings. This is a good smoothie for just 1 person. It can be made with a stick blender instead of getting the big one dirty for just one drink!

Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    1/4 c (2 oz) 2% milk
1/4 c (2 oz) nonfat, sugar free yogurt (I use Best Choice Boston Cream Pie)
    1/4 c water
    1/2 c frozen mixed fruit
1 Tbl dry old fashioned oatmeal

Directions

Makes 1 serving, approximately 1.5 cups

Using a 2 cup measuring glass, add milk and yogurt, then add frozen fruit until liquid reaches the 1 cup line. (This measures 1/2 c fruit by displacement.) Add oatmeal and water. Drink can be prepared without the water if you like it a little thicker; I use the water to make it blend easier since I use a stick blender.

Blend & enjoy!

I used fresh blueberries and strawberries, ice instead of water, and vanilla yogurt instead of Boston Cream Pie and the smoothie was really good. The oatmeal gave it a richer taste. - 8/4/09

Where do you find Best Choice Boston Cream Pie? I have never heard of it, but it sounds good! :) - 6/3/09

I live in the midwest and Best Choice is a brand found in many of our local groceries. It is a part of the Associated Wholesale Grocers line, based in Kansas City. You can go to http://www.awgbrands.com/ to find where you can buy Best Choice or other AWG products near your zip code.

I would highly recommend that everyone consider NOT using sugar-free yogurt as that means you are ingesting artificial sweeteners which have been proven to be cancer-causing (among other diseases). Research the effects of artificial sweeteners, you'll be surprised at how bad they are! - 1/18/10

I used fresh strawberries and Weight Watchers Boston Cream pie yogurt. Also used ice instead of water AND added a little stevia because I like it sweet. :)

VERY good. Thanks for the recipe. This will be a staple in the house.

THis was amazing! I used canned pineapple in juice and measured the juice instead of milk and excluded the water. It was sweet and satisfying but yet very healthy. I love the oatmeal in it, it gives it a great taste and texture. I will try various combos! Thanks so much - 1/15/10

This makes a great smoothie. Just a caution--I used Irish oatmeal for the oatmeal, and not even my fairly powerful blender could mush it. So mine was a little gritty...but that's not the recipe's fault. I would use flat cut oats in the future. - 1/15/10

I used vanilla yogurt and fresh strawberries and blueberries instead of frozen. A little too tart for me. It might have been the strawberries. Can't taste them before you put them in :) I might add a tsp of sugar for the next time. Adding oatmeal is a great idea. - 6/11/09

I use flax (ground) instead, less chewy and more nutty flavor.
also a slice or two of apple and banana as fresh fruit with the crushed ice gives it a more creamy texture.

Why use 2% milk and add all that fat? Substitute fat free milk and decrease the calories and fat. It might be only a small amount, but you certainly don't need to add extra fat when it isn't necessary. - 1/15/10

Delicious! This serving size is just perfect. I changed a couple things; I used Kefir (Greek Gods Low Fat Honey Vanilla) and skim milk. I also added about .5 teaspoon of milled flax seed. I made 1 with frozen strawberries, which was a little tart but still quite good, and 1 one banana too. Great! - 8/3/13

Delish no matter what fruit - fresh or frozen - you use. Mango and strawberries are especially good! For a breakfast meal I just add 6 oz. of fat-free vanilla yogurt and ice to the fresh fruit and blend til smooth. Sure it's about 200 cal but worth it! - 7/27/11

This makes a great smoothie! Adding oatmeal is a great idea. I add whey protein powder for a delicious non-gritty (and very easily mixable) protein boost. You can get it in a non-flavored variety, but the vanilla flavor from Wal-mart is just as tasty and at least $5.00 cheaper. - 1/24/11

I made this today. I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never had a smoothie before. I did not like the first sip but it grew on me. It tasted very strongly of yogurt and oatmeal with a fruity tinge. Love that it's full of antioxidants. I'll make it again! - 1/22/11

Being from Oz we don't have 'Best Choice' yoghurt - I use Greek style low fat yoghurt, with a banana, handful of berries, desert spoon of LSA mix (good for the liver), honey, half low fat milk & half soy milk & a pinch of nutmeg & cinnamon. Great for breakkie or a mid morning snack. Jen - 1/18/10
