Introduction

Original recipe calls for regular breakfast sausage, such as Jimmy Dean. But I found this substitute to taste just as good and much less fat and healthier. A great grab and go breakfast. Make ahead and wrap individually in the refridge, micro for 30 seconds on high and go!! Original recipe calls for regular breakfast sausage, such as Jimmy Dean. This is awesome! Easy to make ahead and wamr up in the morning for a quick breakfast on the go. I used Jennie O Turkey Sausage for an even lower fat content. My husband LOVED it! - 9/22/08

I tried it with turkey sausage too. It came out great but higher in calories & fat. Using the Gimme Lean sausage, it's 233 calories, 7g fat. The whole package of turkey sausage was 293 calories, 16g fat. (No wonder why it tasted better!) It's just a matter of taste pref. and how strict you are.

These are SOOO unbelievable delicious!!!! I will be adding this to my home cookbook!
I substituted fish sauce for the tobasco sauce and used mozzarella cheese (bc its less calories) instead of the cheddar.

I can't wait to try these! My husband and I LOVE scotch eggs! I don't know about the Tobasco though I might just make them the way my friend does. She wraps a seeded Jalepeno around the egg then covers it in her meat mixture. Warning if you try it this way it is not for the faint of heart. - 4/20/10

The original recipe did call for a jalapeno (remove the seeds) and dice up and put in the meat mixture.

    Very Good
I made these on Sunday and am planning on taking them for breakfast all week (well, four out of the five days since the husband swiped one). Next time, I think that I will add a little less garlic powder and more tobasco. Thanks! - 1/3/10

This as great. I used Tapatio hot sauce instead and garlic pepper seasoning and I loved it. - 12/14/09

These sound great, but I'm a total wimp for hot and spicy things, so the tobasco sauce would be a turn-off for me. Fish sauce doesn't sound too appealing to me either. Any suggestions for other substitutions that would keep it authentic? - 11/9/09

Believe me. I don't like hot stuff either. The original recipe called for chopped jalepeno pepper (which I couldn't bring myself to do). If you use the GREEN tobasco, it's very mild. Trust me. Try it as per directions and then let me know what you think. (Don't use fish sauce!!)

YUMMY!! Had been looking for low calorie Scotch Eggs (UK term - sorry!) and am delighted to find this. Interesting twist for us with the jalapeno tabasco. Definitely now a favourite, - 10/22/09

I tried this recipe on Saturday and used ground ham instead of Gimme Lean breakfast sausage , only because I couldn't find in my neighborhood Kroger. It tased good but the meat became dislodged from the egg. Wasn't pretty but it was tasty. Will try again with regular sausage. - 3/23/09
