Introduction
A great way to use up stale bread! A great way to use up stale bread!Number of Servings: 15
Ingredients
-
16 slices whole wheat bread, with crusts removed
Egg, fresh, 8 large
Cheddar Cheese, 8 slices
Oscar Mayer Ham, 8 slices
Milk, 2%, 3 cups
Pepper, black, .5 tsp
Salt, 1 tsp
Directions
Lay 8 slices of bread into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Cut extra to fit, if needed.
Layer slices of ham (your choice, really of what kind of ham - I used honey ham deli slices) over the bread. Top with slices of cheese (I used real cheddar, but if you only have slices, than that's what you use!)
Top with rest of bread.
In a large bowl, beat eggs and milk til frothy. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour over casserole. Pat bread down a bit to make sure it all gets some of the egg mixture.
Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
Bake for about a half hour at 350 (or until puffy and golden brown).
If you like, add some chopped green onions to the egg mixtures - yum!
I also think this was supposed to serve eight, but I serve 15 smaller pieces. Whatever suits your fancy!
