Introduction

This is my grandmother's recipe with a twist for a more earthy taste! This is my grandmother's recipe with a twist for a more earthy taste!
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    Pie Crust ingredients:
    Shortening, 3/4 cup chilled
    All-Purpose White Flour, 1.75 cups
    4-8 tbsp ice cold water

    Pie Filling:
Apple - Fresh medium size, 4 serving (remove)
Cranberries, dried, sweetened (craisins) .25 cup
    Melted Butter, unsalted, 1 tbsp
Sugar In The Raw Natural Cane sugar 1/2 cup
    Brown Sugar, .25 cup, packed
    Salt, .25 tsp
    All purpose flour 1 Tbsp
    Nutmeg, ground pinch
    Cinnamon, ground, 1 tsp
    Cloves, ground, .25 tsp

Directions

Using your mixer add cold shortening to flour and cut in. When crumby in appearance spoon in ice water 1 tbsp at a time until the crumbles start to clump. This is enough you can pack the rest together into a ball by hand. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 35 minutes before you roll out and put in your tip tin.

After you have your crust done and in the tin, start the filling.

Peel, core and slice your apple into good 1/4"-1/2" thick slices. Put in a bowl and add the rest of your ingredients. Mix through in the bowl and then pour into your pie crust. Put the top crust on, cut a few holes to let steam escape during cooking, and bush on an egg wash so the crust browns nicely.

Cook at 350 for 50-60 minutes.

Leave out butter, brown sugar and dried cranberries for a better filling.

    Very Good
Brown pie crust by turning over heat to 450 for first 15-20 mins, then turn down heat to 350 and finish baking. I made this recipe 2/14/2016 for Valentines day/Birthday for my friend Bill, he and I both liked it. - 2/15/16
