Introduction

We used to eat the boxed Zataran's jumbalaya's...but since we are limiting ourselves to very little processed foods, this is my attempt to recreate. Next time I will probably use some broth instead of water and maybe add a little tomato sauce. Ingredients

    1 lb. ground venison
    1 lb. ground pork
    1 small onion
    1 can of rotel
2 cups long grain brown rice, uncooked
5 cups of hot tap water
    2 Tbsp. dried basil
    2 tsp. dried oregano
    1 tsp. ground thyme
    3 tsp. minced garlic
    1 Tbsp. granulated garlic
    1 Tbsp. onion powder
1 tsp. course kosher salt (optional)

Directions

I just browned the meat with the garlic and onions. When it's almost done I add all of the other spices. I rinse and drain the meat and add it back to the skillet. Get it nice and hot again, add 5 cups of water and 2 cups of long grain brown rice. Put a lid on it, turn it down to a nice, steady simmer, and cook for 40 minutes or until rice is done.
