Ingredients

    INGREDIENTS LIST:

    2 teaspoons active dry yeast

    1 cup of warm water

    1/2 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus additional for coating the bowl

1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, plus additional for kneading

    1 1/4 teaspoons salt

Directions

Combine yeast and warm water. Mix until yeast is dissolved.

Add sugar to yeast/water mixture. Let sit 2-3 minutes until the mixture is cloudy.

Add olive oil to yeast/water/sugar mixture.

Combine whole wheat flour, white flour, and salt.

Combine flour/salt and yeast/water/sugar mixture.

Form a ball.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes. Use your muscles for additional workout. :-) The dough might be sticky. Flour your hands with flour of your choice (white/whole wheat) to prevent sticking. Add a little bit of flour for smooth dough.

Form a ball. Lightly oiled a large bowl. Coat the dough with oil inside the bowl. Place a plastic wrap over the bowl tightly.

Leave to rise in warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Divide the dough into two parts. Form a ball with each dough portion. Place each dough portion into separate bowls. Place plastic wrap over each bowl.

Leave the dough in warm place for another 15 - 20 minutes.

At this point, the dough can be placed in the fridge for up to 3 days or rolled into pizza crust. Each dough portion (2 total) yields 12-14 inch pizza crust.

Rolled pizza crust can be frozen for later use. Frozen pizza dough can be placed in the oven directly from frizzer.

Add your desired toppings to create delicious pizza. Use part-skim Mozzarella cheese and any pizza sauce to create low fat pizza. Add bell peppers, mushrooms, etc and create your own personalized pizza.

Preheat oven to 450F. Use pizza stone for evenly cooked crust. Cook for about 20-25 minutes depending on how may toppings you have on the pizza.

Each pizza crust (12-14 inches) yields 4 servings. Two pizza crusts (12-14 inches each) yield 8 servings.

PREPARATIONS AHEAD OF TIME: you can freeze individual servings of rolled pizza crust and create your pizza quickly as needed. My kids love to create their own pizza with their desired toppings. Everyone gets what they want on their pizza.

NOTE: Calculated nutritious information is for pizza crust only. Measure and add your toppings to the recipe and you have delicious and healthy pizza.
