Introduction

Oven roasting pecan with butter or margarine makes them even more tasty! Highly addictive. Oven roasting pecan with butter or margarine makes them even more tasty! Highly addictive.

Ingredients

1 pound (456 grams) of pecan halves
1/2 stick of salted butter or margarine
    1 Tbs salt

My mom use to use 1 stick of margarine (not spread) and 1 1/2 Tbs of salt which adds about 25 calories per one ounce serving. For my taste the version with less butter and less salt is every bit as good.

Directions

Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees
Melt the butter.
Combine butter with salt.
Add pecans to butter and salt mixture.
Coat pecans thoroughly.
Place on cookie sheet with a raised edge.
Cook at 300 degrees for 45 minutes for a less dark result or for 1 hour for very dark almost burned pecans.
Stir pecans every 15 minutes to allow them to roast evenly.
Drain pecans on paper towels or paper bag.

The calories per serving is based on 28 grams (1 ounce) which is plenty to eat in one sitting, although these are probably better to prepare for a situation where someone else who can afford the calories will eat them.

I've had these before but in a different version by adding garlic powder along with the butter. Definitely a thumbs up. Wont be able to put the bowl down for sure. - 8/24/11
