Ingredients

1 3/4 cup all purpose enriched flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup margarine, 80% vegetable oil
1/2 cup no sugar added applesauce
    2 large egg whites
    1 tbsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups quick cooking oats
12 oz. Toll House Semi-sweet Morsels

Directions

1. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a small bowl.

2. Beat together brown sugar, granulated sugar, margarine, and applesauce in a large mixer bowl.

3. Beat in egg whites and vanilla.

4. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in oats, chocolate chips, and 1/2 cup nuts (optional, calories not counted). Drop by rounded tablespoon onto greased baking sheets.

5. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 9 to 10 minutes for a chewy cookie or 12 to 13 minutes for a crispy cookie.

6.Let stand for two minutes on cookie sheet; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Makes 48-56 cookies depending on the size of your "rounded tablespoon". I normally end up with 54 cookies.
