Ingredients

Yeast, bakers, 1 ounce
Milk, 2%, 2 cup - Scalded and cooled
Granulated Sugar, 1 cup - or less
Salt, 1 tbsp
*cardamon spice, ground, 1 tsp
Egg, fresh, 4 large - reserve small amount for glaze
*Flour, white, 9 cup
Butter, unsalted, .50 cup
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Dissolve the yeast in water.
Stir in the other ingredients (except butter) and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Add 3 more cups of flour, beat well. Dough should be smooth and glossy.
Add Butter, mix well.
Add remaining flour until dough is stiff.
Turn onto a lightly floured board and cover with bowl. Let stand 15 minutes.
Knead until smooth and satiny.
Place in lightly greased mixing bowl, cover and let stand until double. (about 1 hour)
Punch down and rise again.
Divide into 3-4 parts – Divide the 3 parts into 3 parts.
Braid into 3 loaves, tuck the ends under. let rise again (about 1 hour)
Glaze with some egg and sprinkle with a little sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
