Ingredients

1 slice bacon, cut into 1/2" pieces
1 small yellow onion, finely diced
    3 cloves garlic, smashed
1 small head cabbage, quartered and sliced into 1" ribbons
4 small potatoes, cut into 3/4" cubes
2 small turnips, cut into 1/2" cubes
8 cups chicken stock or water or a combo or similar
2 polish sausage, cut in half lengthwise and then sliced
1/2 c. half and half cream

Directions

Place soup pot over low flame. Add bacon. Let render a bit, then add onion and garlic. Cook till onion is translucent and bacon is beginning to turn golden, then add cabbage.

Cook, stirring occasionally, till cabbage is beginning to soften. Add stock and turn up the flame to bring to a rolling boil.

Add potatoes/turnips and sausage and reduce heat to medium. Simmer gently until potatoes are cooked through.

Before serving, add half and half (temper by first adding to a cup or so of soup broth, then adding to main soup pot). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
