Ingredients
-
Milk, heavy cream, sugar, 1/8 tsp salt, egg, flour, dark chocolate bits (if you want), and a tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Directions
Whisk or beat the egg and sugar together until smooth. Add the flour and salt. Bring the milk just to a simmer on the stove and then whisk or beat it in to the egg and sugar mixture very slowly.
You want to avoid the eggs curdling from the heat, but you want to heat them enough to kill bacteria. Return the mixture to the stove and heat it for about ten minutes until the custard thickens slightly. You must stir this continuously, or else it will curdle.
Return to the bowl, let chill for a bit if you don't have a super-fancy ice cream maker with a compressor. Mix in the heavy cream and vanilla, put in your ice cream maker, and press "Go"!
After the ice cream has mixed for a while, you should mix in the chocolate chips in the way that works the best with your ice cream maker.
