Introduction
Nothing is better in the mornings than a nice cup of hot Chai tea and oatmeal. Nothing except Chai oatmeal! Nothing is better in the mornings than a nice cup of hot Chai tea and oatmeal. Nothing except Chai oatmeal!Number of Servings: 2
Ingredients
-
1/2 cup of Steel Cut Irish Oats
1 cup of water (you can add an extra 1/2 cup if you'd like creamier oats)
1 cup of Unsweetened Almond Milk
1/3 cup of unsweetened applesauce
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
dash or two of Vanilla extract
Honey (to taste)
Tips
This was made for two but could easily serve three people. It's VERY filling.
The oats are even better the next day when heated up with a bit of extra almond milk. They become even creamier! Yum.
Directions
Combine the water and almond milk in a saucepan and bring to a rapid boil before adding in the oats.
Stir the oats until the mixture starts to thicken slightly. Turn down the heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. (These are basically the same instructions found on the back of McCann's Irish oats and typical to all steel cut oatmeal preparations.)
Halfway through the cooking time add in the Chai mix, cinnamon and vanilla extract.
Right before you take the oats off the stovetop stir in the applesauce and heat through.
You can drizzle honey over top to your liking, though the honey is not included in the nutritional info and the oats are plenty sweet without any added sugars.
Enjoy!
