-
1/2 cup milk - warm
1 package yeast
1 tbsp. sugar
2 cups milk
2 tbsp. whiskey or brandy
2 large eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
5 cups flour

Add yeast and sugar to warm milk and set aside for 5 minutes

You can also use a blender. Add yeast mixture when bubbles start to form in milk. Add dry ingredients a little at a time stirring well to incorporate after each addition.
When dough comes together and is no longer sticky, knead out onto floured board. After kneading is completed, return to bowl and cover. Let rise for 2 hours or until double in bulk.
Roll dough out 1/2 in. thickness and press out rounds with cookie cutter or glass or whatever you want to use that is round. Let rest for about 5 minutes. While dough is resting bring canola oil to 360 degrees. Place rounds in dough until brown on one side then flip to finish other side (about 4 minutes total time). Place on paper towel to absorb oil. Roll in granulated sugar or sprinkle with powder sugar. You can fill donuts with fruit preserves if desired.
