Number of Servings: 20

Ingredients

    2 1/2 cups oats
    3/4 cup flour
    1/4 cup honey
    1/4 cup butter
    1/2 cup applesauce
    1 tbsp cinnamon
    1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
    1 cup pitted dates
    1/4 cup raisins
    2 tbsp grated orange peel
    1 tbsp cocoa
    1 tbsp lemon juice
    1 cup water



Directions

Makes 20 squares in an 8x8 inch pan

In small sauce pan combine: dates, raisins, orange peel, cocoa, lemon juice, water. Bring to a boil and cook on medium low heat for 10 minutes until soft and creamy (add more water gradually if needed)

In bowl combine: oats, spices, flour, honey, applesauce and butter. Divide mixture in half. Pour half into a greased 8x8 pan and press firmly. Then add the date mixture to the oat mixture to cover the entire layer. Top with remaining oat mixture and press firmly.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes
