Introduction

A sweet thick sauce, to be used on top on donairs, or a dipping sauce for garlic fingers A sweet thick sauce, to be used on top on donairs, or a dipping sauce for garlic fingers
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

2/3 cup canned milk (evaporated is best) not low fat, or it won't set properly
    2/3 cup sugar
    1/4 cup white vinegar
    1/2 tsp garlic powder

Directions

Stir canned milk, sugar and garlic powder until sugar is dissolved. Add vinegar and continue mixing. The quicker you add the vinegar and the less you mix, the thicker the sauce will be. Let sauce sit for at least one hour in refrigerator before using. Eventually, the sauce may start to separate. DO NOT STIR IT. Simply skim the thick sauce off the top. It tastes fine, despite the appearance that all the vinegar has seeped out of it.

I find that the sauce can be made in larger batches and survives an unnaturally long time in the fridge. It also actually freezes quite well if you are not as brave as it takes to spoon 3 week old milk products onto your food. Repeated thawing and reheating of sauce does not seem to affect the taste or quality

serving size, 1/4 cup approx

    Incredible!
I just tried your donair sauce. I accidentally doubled the garlic powder, but it still turned out awesome !!! Also, I replaced the sugar with Splenda to reduce carbs. I added Romaine, tomatoes & Maria Emmerich's low carb tortilla. This combo is a keeper ! I will make it on a regular basis. Thanks - 8/23/13

    Bad
The donair sauce recipe was awful. Too much vinegar. It should be about 3 teaspoons not a 1/4 cup. I tried it 2 times and it didn't work. It sucks plane and simple. - 1/11/12
