Introduction

Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    500g plain flour
    1 tsp salt
    2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
    4.5 tsp cream of tartar
    125g unsalted butter diced
    300ml milk
    1 x beaten egg to use as a wash (optional)

Tips

Best eaten warm from the oven, though they do freeze beautifully.


Directions

Mix all the dry ingredients then rub in the butter. Add the milk and knead into a dough.
Roll out to 3cm and use a 6cm fluted cutter to make around 16 scones.
Brush with egg if desired then bake on a tray for 10 minutes at 220 degrees celcius until risen and golden.
