This banana bread has been in my family for generations and truly stands the test of time. Every time I make this recipe, it is gone by the end of the day! Ingredients

    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla
    2 cups flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup walnuts (optional)
    3 ripe bananas, mashed

Tips

Add a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg to really give it a yummy taste and smell.
Serve warm with honey butter or top with softened vanilla ice cream.
Try switching shortening with applesauce!

Directions

Grease loaf pan and preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla, cream together well. Add dry ingredients. Mix in the mashed bananas, the mixture will be lumpy.
Pour into baking pan and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes until toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
