Ingredients

    1 batch Brownie Mix https://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=3337326&ff=1)
    1/2 cup canola oil
2.4 fl oz dry red wine (I used a Chianti)
    1/2 tbsp vanilla
    ---
    Icing:
    1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp dry red wine (the same kind used in the brownies)
    2 tbsp cocoa
    2 tbsp non-hydrogenated shortening
    1 tbsp vegan butter
    1 tsp vanilla

Directions

Heat the oven to 350 and grease an 8" square pan.
Combine the brownie mix, oil, wine and vanilla until just combined.
Pour into the pan, smooth the top and bake for 25-30 minutes, until firm. Cool 30 minutes.
---
Icing:
Place the sugar, wine, cocoa, and shortening into a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once the mixture is boiling, continue cooking and stirring for 1 minute.
Remove from heat, and add vegan butter and vanilla.
Beat with a whisk until thick, then immediately pour over the cooled brownies and spread until smooth.
Cool completely.
