Introduction

This was an old recipe of my grandmother's, updated so my vegan sister can enjoy! I had great luck with almond milk, but I believe cashew or oat would be even better. Ingredients

    1 cup all-purpose flour
    3/4 cup granulated white sugar
    6 tbsp cocoa, divided
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 cup unsweetened/unflavored almond milk (or any milk alternative)
    2 tbsp canola oil
    1 tsp imitation vanilla extract
    1 cup, packed brown sugar
    1 3/4 cup HOT water

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. Combine flour, white sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Spread in ungreased square 8x8 pan. In separate bowl combine brown sugar with remaining 4 tbsps cocoa, sprinkle mixture over cake batter. Pour 1 3/4 hot water over cake DO NOT STIR THE WATER IN I REPEAT DO NOT STIR IN THE WATER. This is where the magic happens. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, serve warm from the oven with your favorite ice cream!
