Ingredients

    For dumpling:

    All purpose flour, 1 cup
    Canola oil, 2 tbspns
    Salt, a pinch
    Water, as required

    For filling:
    Ground almonds, 0.75 cup
    Jaggery, 0.5 cup
    Cardamom powder, 1 tspn

Directions

Method:

Heat 2 tbl spns of oil and add it to the flour. Mix it very well till the maida absorbs the oil entirely.

Add salt and water to make a very stiff dough. Keep the dough aside for around 1/2 an hour.

For the filling. Heat jaggery and ground almonds together till jaggery melts and forms a uniform mixture with almonds.

Remove from heat and add cardamom powder. Mix well.

Take small balls of the dough, roll it into small roundels (if the roundel becomes too thick, the modaks get a rubbery texture). Keep a round ball of stuffing on the puri and cover with the dough to give desired shape.

Place the modaks in a steamer, cover with lid and let cook for 15-20 minutes on medium flame.
