Introduction
I threw together this recipe thanks to a chili craving on a cold day. It's easy to fix and has a thick texture and mild flavor. This recipe is also budget friendly and costs only about $1 per serving. I threw together this recipe thanks to a chili craving on a cold day. Ingredients
-
8 oz 73/27 ground beef, browned & rinsed with warm water
1/2 cup chopped onions
15 oz can no salt added diced tomatoes, undrained
8 oz can tomato sauce (regular style)
15 oz can red kidney beans, rinsed & drained
1 tbsp chili powder
Directions
Brown ground beef in skillet, then rinse in colander with warm water to remove fat.* Add ground beef and onions to 3-qt saucepan and cook over medium-high heat until onions are done. Add remaining ingredients to pot, bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer on medium-low for 15 minutes.
Makes 3 servings of 1 1/4 cups each. Serve with cheddar cheese, sour cream, and oyster crackers or any other garnish you like with chili. (Not included in nutritional calculations.) To stretch this chili to 5 or 6 servings, serve over cooked elbow macaroni.
*To rinse without breaking down beef crumbles, pour warm water over meat from a large bowl instead of running it from the faucet. You can also brown the beef ahead of time, rinse, and then freeze it in recipe-sized portions. To use from frozen, simply cook the frozen beef crumbles along with the onions.
