Introduction

Just like Grandma used to make, she always served this over mashed potatoes with steamed green beans or a tossed salad. Mmmm comfort food! Just like Grandma used to make, she always served this over mashed potatoes with steamed green beans or a tossed salad. Mmmm comfort food!

Ingredients

    1.5 Lbs Beef Round Steak
    2 Cans Stewed Tomatoes
1 Envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
    1 Medium Onion Sliced
    Salt and Pepper

Directions

Sprinkle steaks with salt and pepper, give it a real good pounding with a meat mallet or the back of a knife. Place in bottom of slow cooker, top with remaining ingredients. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve over hot cooked rice or mashed potatoes (not included in calorie count).

*If you have the time dredge the steaks in flour and brown slightly before placing in the slow cooker, adds a lot of flavor but not a necessary step (this would up the fat content as you would need some vege or olive oil).

I actually make almost the same exact recipe, but use half the Onion Soup mix to reduce sodium. A good crockpot tip, place onions (and also root veggies as a rule) on bottom of crockpot to get more of their flavor throughout the dish! - 12/15/09

This was very good. I added 3 potatoes and they absorbed the flavor of the tomatoes. Yummy! - 5/5/09

I made this the other night. It was super easy and really good. I served it with mashed potatoes and broccolli. I did not use a whole packet of onion soup mix, just a couple of Tablespoons. I added fresh italian parsley and a crushed garlic clove. I will make this again! - 1/26/09

Next time I will use 1 can of tomato sauce in place of 1 of the cans of stewed tomatoes and will add another sliced onion and use only 1/2 pkg. of onion soup mix. - 12/12/09

Made this over the weekend. Had to leave out the onion, but it was still very good. I had forgotten to potatoes. So I fixed a few biscuits. I will make this again!Watch how much salt you use, I used too much. - 4/6/09
