Number of Servings: 2


    1 cup water
    1/4 cup white or yellow corn grits
    1 teaspoon butter
    Pinch of salt
    1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese


Bring 1 cup water to a boil in a small saucepan, add salt and butter, then add grits, pouring in a slow steady stream. Stir well and lower heat to a simmer, cook 5-10 minutes until the grits have thickened to the consistency of oatmeal. Stir in the grated cheese and serve.

This recipe makes (2) 3/4 cup servings. You can easily double/quadruple it for more people.

  • This is great! I used Monterey Jack instead and bumped the cheese up to 1/3 cup. My husband is now a cheese grits convert. - 1/23/11

  • I added a teaspoon of garlic powder and left out the butter but added a few squirts of spray butter. We had this with grilled salmon and veggies for dinner - YUM! - 9/1/10
