Introduction

Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    8 oz seitan
    1/2 cup soy sauce
    1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
    1/2 cup water
    6 packets equal
    1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
    1 tsp cornstarch
    1 egg beaten lightly
    pinch red pepper flakes

Directions

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, vinegar, water, equal, and ginger root
In another bowl, combine the egg and cornstarch. Cut seitan into strips and dip pieces into egg mixture.
Heat the oil in a wok or deep heavey skillet until hot. Add the seitan and fry it for 4-6 minutes.
Add soy sauce mixture and cook over medium high heat for two minutes. Bring to boil and then simmer until sauce thickens. Serve over rice (not included in the calorie count).

    Sorry, but this recipe is so unbelievably salty that it's not edible! Even with low-sodium Soy sauce, I don't think I could do it. Plus, it tastes nothing like General Tso's. Sorry, but I won't be making this one again :-( - 3/29/11

    This sounds yummy!! I've loved General Tso's chicken but rarely have it so this sounds like a delicious healthier alternative. I'm going to try this soon! I do have a question though, how much oil is used to fry this? - 5/2/10

    I'm not a fan of this dish. It tasted like pure salt and vinegar. I added some brown sugar which helped a bit, but not enough to make the dish enjoyable. I did use a little bit of the sauce, added some garlic, and sauteed broccoli in it, which was pretty good. - 1/3/10
