Ingredients

    1.5 lbs stweing beef, cubed
    1/4 c flour
    1 stick butter, divided
    water
    1 c mushrooms, sliced
    1 onion, sliced
    2 c fat-free sour cream
16 oz egg noodles, cooked according to package instructions

Directions

Put beef and flour into a ziplock bag and shake well to coat the beef cubes. Melt half a stick of butter in a skillet and add the beef pieces. Brown the beef on all sides, turning often. When all the sides are brown, lower heat and add enough water (very slowly) to cover almost to the top of the meat. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, checking water level and stirring every 20 minutes (add additional water as needed to keep the water almost to the top). Sautee onions and mushrooms until the onions are carmelized in remaining butter. Add the mushrooms and onions to the beef mixture. Add sour cream after removing beef from heat and just before serving. Serve over egg noodles.

    Very Good
This came from my wifes grandmother's braised beef recipe. I added the onion, mushroom, and sour cream to make it a stroganoff. My wife typically serves this with green peas to make a complete meal. It's a staple in our house. - 7/12/09
