Introduction

I had a salad similar to this in Jerome, AZ, in a restaurant called the Asylum. It was an old State hospital converted to a hotel and restaurant. I had a salad similar to this in Jerome, AZ, in a restaurant called the Asylum. It was an old State hospital converted to a hotel and restaurant.

Ingredients

1 4 oz. grilled or broiled hamburger patty (93% lean)
Mesclun salad mix, about 1.5 cups
Dill pickles slices, about 6 slices
About a cup of chopped tomato, or grape tomatoes
About 1 T or 1/8 cup crumbled blue cheese
About 1/2 a medium onion, sliced
    About 1/2 cup fresh mushrooms
    1.5 teaspoons olive oil

Directions

Broil hamburger patty on a rack or grill to the amount you like it done
Add olive oil to saute pan and saute onion and mushrooms with salt and pepper to taste until very soft--or even carmelized
Place lettuce on a plate, add chopped tomatoes, pickle slices, then top with your sauteed mushrooms & onions
Add blue cheese so it melts a bit
Top with hamburger
Add Honey Mustard salad dressing

Yum, Yum
You could substitue with a veggie burger, but I like the crumbled texture of the beef (but my preference is not to crumble in the salad)
I've taken this as a lunch, but I reheat the burger and onions to add to the salad for the sensation of warm with cold.

Yum - I got this same idea for a salad this weekend as I was craving a burger but didn't want the calories. I had it for lunch today with iceburg lettuce & American cheese. Didn't even miss the fries! Glad you already saved the recipe so I don't have to. Thanks! - 9/10/09

Amazing! Did not expect to be so yummy. To cut back on the calories further I used Morning Star Veggie Burger Patties and it was still really good! - 1/18/10
