Ingredients

    2 c. flour
    4 t. baking powder
    5 T. shortening
    3/4 c. milk

    Preheat oven to 450. In a bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Use a pastry blender to cut shortening into flour mixture until it resembles coarse cornmeal; make a well int eh center. Pour in milk and stir with a fork until dough cleans sides of bowl.

    Trn out onto a lightly floured board (use about 1 T. flour). Knead about 10 times. Roll out dough into 1/2" thick circle. Using a 2" cutter cut biscuits. Place biscuits close together (for soft sides) and 1" apart (for crispy sides) on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until tops are lightly browned. Makes 10-12 biscuits.
