Ingredients

    1) Turnips - 2 cups, chopped
    2) Onions - 2 tbsp, chopped
    3) Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
    4) Garam Masala - 1 tsp
    5) Paprika - 2 tsp
    6) Salt to taste
    7) Olive oil - 2 tsp
    8) Urad dal - 2 tsp

Directions

1) Chop/cube the turnips and boil them in some water till they are tender (just make sure they don't get overcooked.)
2) In a pan, add 2 tsp of olive oil (you will need more if you are not using a non-stick pan). Warm it (do not let it smoke), add the cumin seeds and urad dal and stir till the dal turns a light yellow.
3) Add the chopped onions,salt, paprika and garam masala and saute till the onions turn translucent.
4) Add the cooked turnip and saute. Leave it on a low flame for about five minutes.
You can add a sprig of curry leaves and some hing if you want to make it an authentic Indian vegetable.
This makes 8 1/4 cup servings
