i've been making the original from the KRAFT website for a few yrs and its always a hit. have made some of the adaptations too - it really is still moist w/o any oil! seen a cute version w/ orange colored frosting covering the cake and a green-tinted ice-cream cone upside down on top as the stem! - 10/6/10

This sounds great! I'm going to use applesauce also and maybe try dark chocolate in place of the semi-sweet. Thanks for the recipe! - 12/2/09

This is so good. I love the flavor of this cake. But I made it with natural applesauce instead of the oil.
Even my kids love it. There is only one problem. I can't stop at just one serving.... Too incredible tasty.

I know, right?! I am making it this weekend for a gathering! I can't just make it to have at home unless I KNOW there will be no left overs! I just made homemade applesauce too - so I will use that instead of the oil this time as well!

This is delish! I made it for our halloween party and everyone loved it, but were too full from the other foods we had that we ended up with quite a bit of leftovers. YUM for me! lol - 11/11/09

This cake might be good but the calorie count is way off. There are 1440 total calories in a box of dry Spice cake mix, before anything else. Divided by 16 that means there are 90 calories per serving, add in everything else and you are well over 200 calories per piece. - 2/16/12

I made it in advance for Thanksgiving and froze it right out of the oven. It was moist and delicious when we had a few days later, and it was loved by kids and adults. - 12/22/11

It sounds delicious . .I would like to try it, but what is Neufchatel Cheese - is it cream cheese? Thank you! - 10/3/10

    Reply from KARRILEE (10/3/10)
Yes - it is found right next the the Cream Cheese in the grocery store - it simply has 1/3 of the fat and has the same consistency and taste! The only downfall with this cake is trying to stay out of the left overs! Enjoy!

delicious!!! we made it with a traditional cream cheese frosting (8oz. low-fat cream cheese, 1c. powdered sugar, 1.5 t. vanilla) and its moist and wonderful. - 9/28/10

There is no oil in the ingredient list or in the calorie count. I'm confused with the directions - what do you do with the applesauce? This sounds really good but I'm afraid I would screw it up! - 2/15/10

    Reply from KARRILEE (2/15/10)
You won't screw it up! The applesauce replaces the oil - so you don't NEED any oil at all... try it - you'll LOVE this cake!
