Introduction

Restaurant-style hot and sour soup, minus the sugar, corn starch and MSG. You can add whatever other vegetables you like (hot and sour soup usually has mushrooms but I don't like them). I usually add bean sprouts and brown rice and serve it as a complete meal. Restaurant-style hot and sour soup, minus the sugar, corn starch and MSG. I tweaked this, adding more tofu, mushrooms, used egg beaters and thai chili sauce as I had no white pepper, but it came out wonderful!! I am glad I doubled the recipe, because this will be polished off in my household in no time at all!! - 4/4/09

Great Recipe.. I have a tip. Use ARROWROOT as a thickener for this dish. Arrowroot is a non-glycemic and natural alternative to corn starch. You'll get much better consistancy in the finished product. - 3/21/08

This sounds very good but DH and I are both on low sodium food plans. Otherwise, I would surely make it. Yum! - 12/22/19

    O.K.
I had hot and sour soup at a our favorite Chinese buffet just to see how they matched up to this recipe. This recipe was going fine until I added the egg. Maybe I shouldn't of poured all in one spot. - 1/10/13

holy hannah the salt content is astronomical!! one cup of thin soup won't satisfy this gal, and 2 cups is a daily intake of salt--RIDICULOUS!!! - 11/23/12

great recipe! I'm glad to find a lower calorie option for this soup but the flavor was a little off from what I have had in a restaraunt. My husband loved it and will have the leftovers tomorrow. Added a low carb thickening agent. - 8/10/10
