I used spicy hummus and some lite cheddar. Also used my small George Foreman grill and didn't need any butter! - 8/19/12

I would shave off a ton of calories and make this with olive oil spray in the pan, instead of butter. It would go well with the flavors too. - 7/9/08

I've made lots of vegan sandwiches. I think grilling sandwiches really amp up the flavor. I've subbed the humus for refried beans and avocado. Of course I forgo the cheese unless it veggie cheese. I also like to add grilled onions and peppers to the hummus sandwich. - 1/28/16

Modifications: subbed garlic & herb feta for provolone, added cracked black pepper turkey & onion, made on George Foreman with olive oil spray. To die for! Loved melted cheese, rich hummus, & toasty bread! - 2/26/11

I just made this. In fact, I'm eating it now. OMG. I used Sara Lee 100% mult-grain instead of the other --I needed something heartier, spinach instead of basil --because I don't have any, about 1tsp/slice of best life buttery spread and used roasted garlic. It's to die for! - 10/4/10
