Introduction

Ingredients

1/3 cup butter, melted
3/4 C brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
12 slices whole wheat bread (works best if slightly stale, but not required)
6 eggs
1 1/2 c milk
dash of salt
Directions
Place melted butter in 9 x 13 pan. Add brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix well and spread over bottom of pan. Cover with 2 layers of bread slices. Beat eggs, milk and salt. Pour egg mixture over bread; Cover and refrigerate overnight. Uncover and let sit on counter for 15 minutes. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes or until knife comes out clean and it is not squishy.
Makes 12 servings. When serving, cut bread slices in half (the 2 layers of bread will create one THICK piece of bread). Can also put 1 tsp of fruit spread between slices before adding egg mixture.

This tasted wonderful! It was very easy to make and I enjoyed every bite! We cut the fat/calories by using Pepperidge Farms Light Style wheat bread (45 calories per slice) and we made 8 slices of bread with 1/2 of the other ingredients. This cut it down to 131 calories per slice & 4 grams of fat. - 3/9/09

Excellent base recipe. Like the others, I went low cal - 1 tblsp butter and 1 tblsp brown sugar. 4 egg whites and 2 eggs, 1% milk. Near end of cooking I put dots of lowfat marg on the top so it could melt in. Also, you can put it under the broiler for a minute or so to brown the top. Delish. - 6/22/09

I'm glad that this recipe included ingredients that are not low cal. I realize that we use SP to make healthy decisions & many use it to lose weight, so having mostly low cal recipes for people is fabulous! But I don't mind the real things (butter, brown sugar) in moderation. Love the recipe! - 2/25/10
