Mushroom soup makes delicious gravy and meat is tender and well done. Mushroom soup makes delicious gravy and meat is tender and well done.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1lb approx - 4 cube steaks
    1 can mushroom soup
    11/2 cans water
    2 Tbsp Beef soup base
    salt, pepper, garlic to taste

Directions

Brown cube steaks in a frying pan and season to taste.

Add mushroom soup to crock pot and add water (I use water due to the fact it cooks in crock and I dont' want to burn the gravy - and water saves calories). Add beef soup base, and browned cube steaks.

Cook on high for 1 hour and then to low heat for next 4 hours; or until meat comes out tender and falling apart. The soup is the gravy - just thickened and serve over baked potato or noodles.

I just did it all in my pan on the stove and simmered it on low for about 45 min. I also added sliced onions and fresh mushrooms. Delicious over mashed potatoes or brown rice. - 4/19/07

This sounds great, and I too would use a low sodium soup. - 10/16/10

This is a stand-by meal at my house! Easy and delicious. I also have used tomato basil soup and skipped the soup base, it's a nice change of pace. Use only 1 can of water though or it's to watery. Serve over brown rice. - 10/10/07

This didn't thrill me, but I'm giving this 4 stars because I have a feeling the problem is I don't like that cut of meat personally, not a problem with the recipe itself. Husband and son ate it just fine. - 2/2/15

I do this same thing with sirloin steak rather than cube steak with all fat removed; even less calories and delicious - 5/22/13

Somewhat bland. I used homemade mushroom soup because we have to do low-sodium for dh. Even adding salt to my serving didn't help much. Maybe I will add the onions and other things some mentioned next time. - 9/30/12

I followed the recipe and added potatoes (cut up) & onions to cook w/ the meat. Green salad on the side and dinner is served! - 11/9/11

I made this according to the directions with a couple of variations. I seasoned my steak with Mrs Dash Table Blend and Garlic Powder. I also used Swanson Concentrated Stock. It turned out delicious. I will be making this again real soon! - 11/1/11

My whole family really liked this recipe! the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I did make some minor adjustments. I did not use the beef soup base, I used the water the recipe called for and deglazed the pan that I browned the steaks in. I had browned in a nonstick skillet w/ cooking spray. - 1/6/10

This was excellent. It made a very nice sauce and I served it with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. I used the stove-top method as some others did. I added mushrooms and carmelized onions as well as the garlic. This is so easy. Thanks for sharing. - 11/30/09

My daughter says this is her new favorite meal. According to her, this is amazing! It is very good! I think I will add mushrooms and onions next time, although my daughter thinks just mushrooms will be a good touch. - 11/1/09

It was really good. I was a little worried about the sodium though. I used Cambell's low sodium cans of mushroom soup. - 2/27/09

this was really good. i also added onions and mushroom and it was delicious. oh and you may want to cook it on low for a little longer so the meat isnt quite as tough, but that could just be my crockpot:) - 2/8/09
