Introduction

A great snack for on the person on the go! A great snack for on the person on the go!
Number of Servings: 80

Ingredients

    1/2 lb. (2 sticks) butter
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 & 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
    1 c. dark chocolate chips

Directions

1. Heat over to 350 degrees.
2. Beat together margerine and sugars until creamy. (It's better if you let the butter sit out and warm up; melting it in the microwave doesn't give the batter the right consistency)
3. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
4. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl.
5. Add combined flour mixture gradually to sugar mixture.
6. Stir in oats and chocolate chips.
7. Make cookie balls the size of quarters and place one inch apart on cookie sheets.
8. Bake 8-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy!

One more thing to consider... check out the serving size. I cut the recipe in half, but I didn't get 40 cookies. Mine weren't even that big... so does that mean in order to get the 66 calorie cookie, we need to make them the size of a gum drop? Just wondering. - 6/25/09

I use a 1 tablespoon size scoop to make them and I always come out with 80. I like them smaller because I can eat more and not feel as bad about it.

These were very good. If you're vegan, you can use 1/4 cup of pureed fruit with 1/2 tsp baking powder to substitute an egg. I ended up using pumpkin because I had it on hand and they were fine. I don't know about lo-cal though - I ended up eating 8! - 7/28/09

I made these to solve my chocolate craving. Love them! And it worked. :) I love the fact that they are quite wholesome, so they fill you up (unlike regular cookies) and you don't end up eating wayy too many. - 6/2/09

I did half applesauce, half butter and egg substitute. The consistency was probably chewier than the original, but still good. I also omitted the white sugar-didn't try it the regular way, but I thought it was great without that sugar. All of those substitutions work and I got 72 cookies. Good! - 5/11/10

Really great! I used Promise with a tablespoon of butter to make the 1/2 pound. I also used 1/2 sugar and 1/2 Splenda for the white sugar. Also I added 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa to make them chocolate chocolaate chip oatmeal (and still be lo-cal). My teenage boys loved them! Thanks! - 2/16/10

These are awesome. I halved the recipe. I also used olive oil spread instead of butter. A came out with about 30, but I made some a bit bigger for my fiance. I will be making these for my next family event, good for all the other caloire counters, and no one else will know! - 9/5/09

I actually didn't read right and used just white flour since that was all I had and had already started. I also cheated and used 2 cups of chocolate chips. I was just making cookies to clean out my pantry. These came out DELISH! - 9/16/11

i made these just as the recipe says the first time and i LOVED them. the second time i added just a dash of ground cinnamon and they were INCREDIBLE. i LOVE this recipe. The second time, i also flattened the cookies a little before putting them in just for a different, more desirable shape/size - 8/28/11

I made some pretty big cookies, but they are delicious... and i substituted apple sauce for half of the butter...and decreased the sugar by a few table spoons. - 6/15/11

    Bad
If you are looking for an easy hassle free recipe, this is NOT it. The batter was too dry and crumbly to make into balls and made a mess all over the kitchen. After baking they were still crumbly and fell apart completely. They tasted ok it you don't mind eating a pile of crumbs with a spoon. - 6/6/11

These are great! I halved the recipe and used only 1/2 cup brown sugar (no white sugar), dropped by the leveled tablespoonful and it came out to 36 cookies. These are SO yummy! The perfect treat :) - 1/31/11

made these tonight, halved the recipe, didn't want that many cookies. These are delish! The only modification I made was that I added 1.5 tbsp. of ground flax seed for a little more nutrition. My kids loved them! - 12/9/10

I had to do some substitutions because of what I had in my pantry. I used 5 squares of bittersweet chocolate and all purpose flour. These were awsome! Am going to get the other ingredients and try the recipe as written to see how I like it that way, too. - 11/28/10

SOOOOO YUMMMMY!!!! They were easy to make - my 4 year old daughter did most of it by herself - and they were delicious! Used Splenda instead of sugar otherwise followed the recipe - not sure we got 80 cookies but we got 3 cookies sheets full - plenty for everyone :) - 9/20/10

I just made these and got 100 cookies with this; I used approx. 1/2 tsp per cookie. They are very good and very filling; they're about the size of a golf ball. I'd call that pretty good. I used Baker's Sugar, the calories are same as reg. sugar. Definately will make again. - 1/27/10
