Ingredients

    For Cake Batter:
    Granulated Sugar, 2 cup
    Butter, unsalted, 1 cup (room temperature)
    Egg, fresh, 3 large (room temperature)
    Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp
    Almond Extract, 1/4 tsp
    *Flour, white, 3 cup
    Baking Powder, 1.5 tsp
    Salt, 1/4 tsp
    Buttermilk, 1 cup

    Frosting:
    Butter, unsalted, .5 cup
    Vanilla Extract, 1 tsp
    Salt, 1/8 tsp
    Powdered Sugar, 2 cup
    Milk, 2%, 3 to 5 tbs

Directions

Cake directions:
PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 F. Grease and flour 2 8-inch cake pans.
1. Beat sugar and butter at medium speed until creamy and fluffy - app. 5 minutes. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Beat in vanilla and almond extracts.
2. Whick together flour, baking powder, and salt in bowl; add to sugar mixture alternately w/buttermilk, beginning and ending w/flour mixture. Beat at medium-low speed just until blended after each addition. Batter will be thick.
3. Pour batter into pans, spreading to edges. Bake 34 - 38 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire rack 10 mins. Remove from pans to wire rack, and cool completely.
Frosting directions:
1. Beat 1/2 c. butter, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and salt at medium speed until creamy.
2. Gradually add powdered sugar alternately w/3 Tbsp. milk, 1 Tbls. at a time, beating at low speed until blended and smooth after each addition. Beat in up to 2 Tbls. additional milk for desired consistency.
