Ingredients
-
1/2 package or 10 oz. Jennie-O ground turkey 90% lean
1/2 can or 1 cup of black beans, rinsed
1 egg white
1/4 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1/3 cup finely chopped green onion
seasonings to taste:
I use cumin, cayenne pepper, chili powder, minced onion, minced garlic. It doesn't really need salt--there is sodium in the canned black beans. I never measure the spices, but the minced onion and garlic may add a negligible amount of calories.
Directions
Rinse and drain the black beans. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl. (Get your hands right in there to be sure it's thoroughly mixed...) Divide into 4 patties. It will take a little packing to get these to hold together, the beans like to fall out.
**you can run the beans through a food processor briefly if you don't like a chunky burger, or you need to "hide" them from picky eaters**
If you're cooking indoors, spray a large frying pan with a non-stick spray and cook on med-high heat until browned on the outside and cooked through. About 4-6 minutes per side.
If grilling you may want to refrigerate these for a half hour or so to help them hold together better. You'll probably want to spray your grill with non-stick spray, or line it with foil keep the burgers from sticking.
Makes 4 burgers.
Serve on your favorite roll or bread with your favorite burger toppings. We like lettuce, tomato, onion, salsa & guacamole on top, and usually have salad for a side dish.
