Introduction
I don't usually brown my hamburger or cook my rice first, but I wanted to drain the fat from the beef, so for this recipe I cooked everything first. You might not have to cook it so long. Ingredients
-
1 lb lean ground beef
3/4 c uncooked rice
1 small onion, chopped
Head of cabbage
3 cans soup
Directions
Cook cabbage in large pot half filled with water, until tender. Brown ground beef and onion. Cook rice in 1.5 c of water until tender. Once everything is cool, peel leaves off the cabbage and put two spoonfuls of beef mixture on it. Roll up and place in casserole. Any broken cabbage pieces I put on the bottom to help alleviate burning. Any leftover cabbage, I put on the top, too, for the same reason. Makes 14 rolls, but I ran out of room, so I just mixed the extra meat mixture with some cabbage and put it on top (so I said 12 servings, if you have one cabbage roll per person - you'll probably have 2). Cover with 3 cans of tomato soup. Bake for 90 minutes.
