Ingredients

    1 tbsp olive oil
    1/2 lb ground sweet italian sausage
    1/4 tsp crushed dried red pepper flakes
    1/4 cup diced onions
    1 (14 1/2 oz) can Italian diced tomatoes, drained
    3/4 cup Half and Half cream
    1/4 tsp salt
    6 oz whole wheat pasta
    2 tbsp minced basil
    1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Directions

1. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat.
2. Add sausage and crushed red pepper.
3. Cook until sausage is no longer pink, about 7 minutes.
4. Add onion and garlic to skillet. Cook until onion is tender and sausage is light brown, stirring occasionally, about 7 minutes.
5. Add tomatoes, cream and salt.
6. Simmer until mixture thickens slightly, about 4 minutes.
7. Cook pasta in large pot of boiling water.
8. Drain and return to pot.
9. Pour sauce over pasta. Add cheese and basil and serve. Makes 4 servings.

    This was delicious! I didn't drain the tomatoes and it made a really nice sauce. Next time I might thicken it just a little with some cornstarch. This is a keeper! - 8/31/10
