Ingredients

    16 oz. uncooked lentils (8 cups cooked)
    1 cup chopped onion
    1/2 cup chopped celery
    1/2 cup chopped carrots
    8 ounces chopped lean ham
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    salt and pepper

Directions

Makes 10 1-cup servings.
Cook lentils according to package directions.
While cooking, saute the onion, celery, and carrots in the olive oil until soft. Add them to the cooking lentils.
Add the ham halfway through cooking time.
Simmer until lentils are done to your liking, about 20 minutes.

    when you say "traditional lentils recipe" this is exactly what I think of. Are the other more exotic lentil recipes, sure. But this is the basic traditional recipe that many folks may have grown up with. - 9/27/12

    great fiber but not very flavorful i wonder if chili powder or curry powder might liven it up? not very familiar with lentils - 11/12/10
