Introduction

This is a great, nutritious, low-allergen "first food" for babies when they're starting solids - as they grow up you can ease up on the texture a bit if you want it a little less smooth. Ingredients

    1/4 cup raw red lentils
    2/3 cup vanilla rice milk
    1/4 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp fresh grated ginger
    1/2 tsp grated orange zest
    1 cup well-cooked brown short-grain rice
    1 large, over-ripe banana, broken into chunks
    1 tsp brown sugar
    1/3 cup pure pumpkin puree

Directions

Combine lentils, milk, cinnamon, ginger and orange zest in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer.
Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
Stir in rice and cook a further 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and transfer to a blender.
Add banana, brown sugar and pumpkin puree and process until very smooth.
