Introduction

I often use hamburger and make patties instead, but we originally used cubed steak. I often use hamburger and make patties instead, but we originally used cubed steak.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

Cubed steak or hamburger patties (4)
    3-5 large potatoes
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk (skim, if possible)

Directions

Makes enough for 4, possibly left over potatoes. But when is that not ok, right?

If you're using hamburger, be sure to salt and pepper the patties.
First, mix together cream of mushroom and milk in casserole dish, preferably one with a lid. Lay patties or steaks on top, and cover with sauce mix using spoon. Cover dish and bake at 350 F for 30-45 minutes (it tends to take longer if you're just using foil to cover). In the meantime, prepare mashed potatoes the way you like 'em (I scrub them really well and cut into eighths then boil with the skin on, adding salt and pepper, butter and milk during mashing. Parsley is a great addition).
Serve mushroom sauce as gravy over potatoes. If you're in a real hurry, crumble the hamburger instead of patties and use the whole mix as a gravy. Serve with at least one green. That is a must!
