Ingredients

    Filling:
    3 cans unsweetened tart cherries (Oregon Brand)
    1 c sugar mixed with
    3 Tbsp cornstarch

    Topping:
    1 c sifted flour
    2 Tb'sugar
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    3 Tbsp shortening (Crisco type)
    1/2 c nonfat milk (or less. Add gradually)
    2 Tbs sugar (opt)

Directions

Oven to 400. 8" square glass pan. (do not spray or grease pan)

Filling:
Drain 3 cans cherries and SAVE JUICE.
Mix sugar and cornstarch together in heavy saucepan. Stir in 1 cup of juice and cook, stirring constantly to prevent lumps, until thick. Add cherries and pour all into 8" square pan.

Topping:
sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together. Cut in shortening. Add milk gradually. Mix well with a fork. Drop by tablespoons onto cherry mixture to make 9 cobbles. Sprinkle cobbles with a little sugar and bake at 400 for about 25 minutes, or until cobbles are golden.
