Introduction

This is my mom & grandmas recipe for chocolate syrup. Not quite sure why they called it "dope", unless it has to do with the addictive factor. It was made for all occasions involving cake and ice cream when I was a child. Every bit as good, if not better, than Hershey's syrup. When I crunched the numbers, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Portion size is the key. Wonderful over vanilla frozen yogurt. Ingredients

    2 cups granulated sugar
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    2 tbsp light corn syrup

Directions

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients except vanilla, whisking until cocoa is thoroughly combined/dissolved. Over medium high heat, bring to a boil, stirring/whisking constantly. Reduce heat down to a simmer, then bring back up to a boil. Repeat this 3 or 4 times. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Allow to cool completely. Store in a bottle in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks (if it lasts that long).
