    1 lb dry great northern beans, rinsed and picked over
    4 C chicken broth (I used Swanson "33% less sodium")
    2 C yellow onion, chopped
    1 C celery, diced
    3 large garlic cloves
    2 tsp ground cumin
    1/2 tsp ground oregano
    1 tsp dried ground corriander
    1/4 tsp ground cloves
    1 (4oz) can chopped green chiles
    2 pounds boneless, skinless, chicken or turkey breast, grilled and cubed


Place beans in a heavy pot and add enough water to cover beans by 2 inches. Bring to a boil. Let stand covered for 1 hour. Drain and rinse. Discard liquid.

Place beans in crock pot. Add chicken broth, onion, celery & spices. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours until beans are not quite tender. Add chiles and chicken. Cook for another hour, until beans are desired tenderness.

  • Loved every bite of this chili. I'll use 1/8 teaspoon clove next time because overpowering (or our clove is very fresh), but the dish is outstanding. - 12/2/08

  • Delicious! I halved the recipe and added some cayenne pepper to make it more spicy. I also used 1lb of ground chicken instead and it came out wonderful. - 7/18/08
