Ingredients

    I do:
    1 cup lentils
    .25 cups white rice
    and these veggies:
    1.5 medium onion
    3 medium carrots
    celery - 1 to 2 stalks
garlic - 5 cloves, left whole or halved

    Spices:
Cumin (teaspoon? I like a lot of cumin, to taste.)
    Turmeric (.5 tsp?)
    Salt (.25 tsp? to taste)
    a pinch of pepper
some garlic powder if you like
    2 bay leaves

could add: curry powder, cardamom, etc. Whatever Indian type flavorings you like! )

Directions

Saute your onions, ideally they would become golden by the end. Add the other veggies, and your spices. Saute for a bit. Add the lentils and 3 cups water. Simmer for a while, 10-15 minutes or so, then add the rice. Keep adding water as needed so that it stays covered during the process. You basically want to cook it until the rice and lentils are both cooked.
Sorry my amounts aren't very exact, I made this up and didn't measure so very much.
The lucky thing it is all very forgiving, do what you like! :D
