Introduction
This is based of an About.com recipe, but I changed a lot. I will say that the sauce I used isn't technically vegetarian (fish ingredient). Use whatever sauce you like, but keep in mind that will change the nutritional information. This is based of an About.com recipe, but I changed a lot. Ingredients
-
- 8 oz block of soy tempeh
- 2 tbsp garlic & herbs olive oil
- 2 tbsp liquid smoke
- 1/4 cup apple butter bbq sauce
Directions
Slice tempeh block in thirds. Then slice lengthwise so that you have 6 square-ish patties. Arrange patties in steamer and steam for 10 minutes.
Mix oil and liquid smoke together with fork. When patties are done steaming, use tongs to immediately place them on a large plate. Cover with the oil/smoke mixture. Cover the plate with aluminum foil, and let marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking pan with foil (you can use the same foil that covered your plate), and transfer marinated tempeh to pan. Bake in oven for 10 minutes.
Remove pan from oven, and brush sauce over each patty. Use tongs to flip patties and brush them once more. If you still have sauce left, go ahead and pour some on top of each patty. Return to oven and bake another 10-15 until sauce has baked on.
Serving Size: makes 6 small patties
