Introduction
This twist on an old favourite can be served with spaghetti, placed in a pita or burger bun, or just picked up and eaten. Yummy! I bake them in the oven on a rack to keep the fat down and you could also use lower fat meat and cheese to really bring down the calories and fat. Ingredients
-
500g ground beef (mince)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3tsp (1tbs) minced garlic (dried)
2 tsp ground thyme
1 tsp black pepper
Tips
Can be served with spaghetti, placed in a pita or burger bun, or just picked up and eaten. Yummy!
This recipe could be lower in fat if you used very lean ground beef and low fat cheese. You could also use mozzarella or another type of cheese that would melt nicely in the mixture.
The kids love mixing all the ingredients and making the meatballs with their hands - but make sure they wash their hands completely after handling the raw meat!
Directions
- Put the ground beef into a bowl.
- Add shredded cheese.
- Add the garlic, pepper and thyme.
- Mix all ingredients thoroughly with your hands or a spoon. Then form the mixture into golf ball sized meatballs and place onto a rack in a baking pan.
- Place baking pan in hottest part of oven (under grill if you have one).
- Cook for 10 minutes, then turn all meatballs and cook for another 10 minutes. Test one to make sure that beef is cooked in the middle. If the beef is still raw in the middle, cook for another 5 minutes.
