Number of Servings: 5

Ingredients

1 cup washed whole or split lentils (wash carefully)
    2 Tbsp oil
    1 onion
1 tsp salt (add just before serving to keep lentils tender)
2 Tbsps 0.25 tsp chili powder
    1 tsp ground turmeric (optional)
    0.5 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp ground corriander
4-6 cups water depending on cooking method

Tips

Once I discovered the crock pot method I have switched to that method but dont forget to reduce the water to 4 cups instead of 6 if using crock instead of stove.

Directions

EITHER:
Crockpot: Put all in crock using only 4 cups of water, cook on high for an hour and low 3 hours. Takes 10 minutes prep.
OR:
heat 6 cups water to boiling in large pot, add 1 cup lentils. Return to boil and reduce heat to simmer until lentils are tender. mash if you want. cut the onion in slivers and saute in pan with the oil until brown on edges.Add all spices to pan and saute another minute. Add all this to the lentils. Return to boil, then reduce heat and simmer another 30 minutes. Takes longer than crock method.
Serve with chapattis, corn tortillas or biscuits.

Serving Size: 4-8 servings, I will measure it tonight and edit this.
